As overwhelming as pain can be, it’s important to remember that it is not a disease.
Pain is a symptom. Instead of just putting a Band-Aid on the symptom, it is imperative to get to the root of the pain in order for true healing to occur.
Dr. Group is the founder of The Global Healing Center, located in Houston, Texas… and he’s deeply concerned about the overuse of opiates and the disastrous results that these dangerous drugs have on our society. The opioid crisis has led to tragedy after tragedy, and yet prescription painkillers continue to be handed out like candy.
The encouraging news is, there are numerous effective alternatives that people can turn to.
Starting at the root
One important thing Dr. Group encourages his patients to do is to get to the emotional root of their pain, because negative emotions can hinder healing. He adds, “We have the ability to speak healing, and to think healing, and to not only be able to heal, but to grow in positive ways if we allow our body to do that.”
This holistic approach to pain management is an important factor in what Dr. Group does, and it’s part of the philosophy that we’re advocating with Pain Revealed. Pain can make you feel helpless, out of control, and as if your own body is betraying you…
…but when you work through your pain on an emotional as well as a physical level, it does a lot towards bringing lasting relief.
Identify it, address it, and eliminate it
Dr. Group feels that it’s vitally important to explain to patients exactly what is causing the pain, and then give them all the options as to how to eliminate it. When you know what you’re dealing with and understand why it hurts, it takes a lot of the fear and mystery out of the situation and gives you back a lot of the control that feels lost when you suffer from pain.
Addressing the trauma, anger, and fear that we naturally feel as a result of pain (and, often, the injury or illness that causes the pain) is an important step in the healing process.
Giving patients information, understanding, and control over their treatment makes a world of difference on both a physical and emotional level.
Feeling like you have some control over your own body is an essential step in healing. Knowing your options and being part of developing a plan of action for your own care gives you back a lot of the control that feels lost when you suffer from pain…
And that can go a long way towards hope and healing!
