The Pain Revealed Series introduced us to Eric Zielinski Ph.D. and Sabrina Zielinski… often referred to as Dr. Z and Mama Z. Both trace their interest in natural healing back to their childhood experiences of poor diet, junk supplements, and poor gut health. Sabrina actually developed kidney stones form all the medications and junk supplements she was taking!
Now, both of the Zielinskis are advocates of essential oils and are making great strides in educating others about the benefits of this natural approach. Dr. Z points out that, for example, willow tree bark is a natural form of aspirin. It provides great pain relief, so why use something synthetic when something natural is so effective and easily available?
He states, “Where do you think chemists get the chemical structures for the drugs that you’re taking? They don’t invent them in their heads; they’re copying what God put in the plants. That’s all we’re doing; we’re getting the real deal.”
Dr. Z further explains that there are three safe methods for use of essential oils: inhalation, topical application, and internal consumption of food grade oils.
For inhalation, he says a diffuser filled with distilled water is the way to go. For topical application or internal consumption, it is essential to dilute the oil in a natural carrier oil such as almond, jojoba, or coconut oil. “Essential oils can be completely metabolized by the body…because they’re from nature,” notes Eric, pointing to clinical trials demonstrating their safety.
One important use of essential oils is for the treatment of inflammation, a major cause of pain. Dr. Z recommends oils such as copaiba and eucalyptus to fight inflammation. These provide a safe and effective option for people suffering from a number of conditions including injury and arthritis.
Contrast this to the NSAIDS (over-the-counter and prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) that are so widely in use right now. NSAIDS are known to be hard on the kidneys and cause micro-bleeding in the gut. They thin the blood, and are dangerous… even deadly, if overdosed.
The Zielinskis promote their mission of incorporating oils into a healthy lifestyle on their website. The website also features recipes that users find helpful, including instructions for oil blends for allergies, digestion, and relaxation.
Essential oils are a great choice for pain sufferers. They offer a pleasant and natural option that helps patients avoid the dangers of various painkillers, both NSAIDS and addictive opiates.
Pain patients are seeking healing and not just band-aid solutions, and oils can play a critical role here. Essential oil treatments for pain are easy to incorporate into your lifestyle and don’t carry the risk of unwanted side-effects up to and including addiction.
I would like to know where the best diffusers can be purchased for the use of essential oils in my home.
Hi, Susan! Keep an eye on this site, we’ll be opening the Pain Revealed Bookstore in the next few days and will have some options for you there.
I would like to know what would be the best essential oils to help with inflammation in the liver?
I am interested in the essential oils you recommend! I have pain every day from different causes: first was the result of a prolapsed disc in 1993 exacerbated by scoliosis and the fact that I am a professional violinist, though not now playing every day! The second group were from cycling accidents including a rotator cuff injury; the third is from a rare condition diagnosed in 2011of myelofibrosis, a form of leukemia which creates a swollen spleen and the potential of bone pain. The fourth, more recently from a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Indeed I had to visit my doctor to ask which pains were likely caused by which problems! I was very luck in 2004 to discover a Bowen Therapist, Helen Perkins of Peterborough, UK who has an amazing ability to send me out of her clinic out of pain and who constantly works to understand my various problems and to seek solutions. I also have found an excellent Herbalist in Stamford, nearby, named Chris Hull who has amazingly sought out information for the myelofibrosis not at all in the general ‘arena’! Meanwhile, after trying Tiger Balm, a chilli based muscle treatment which is pretty effective, I found a cream which is even better, which does get rid of the pains in a very short time instead with a cooling action-: PURAGANIC … this contains distilled water; Hemp Extract; Arnica Montana; Turmeric Cucurmin; Eucalyptus; Rosemary; Menthol; Lemon; MSM; Carbonner; Phenoxyethanol; Polysorbate.
I do recommend this!
Roger, best of luck to you and we are so glad to hear that you found a practitioner that has helped you get out of pain! It’s always wonderful to hear stories of healing and relief.

I have been in constant pain for years due to 2 discs being out at the lumbar region, and severe neck pain on my left shoulder that causes extreme headaches several times a day. So I am left with little ability to exercise or the will to. What can you recommend?
Thank you.

I am contemplating knee surgery..not sure if that is the method is something that I should pursue. I do believe a good chiropractor could help me. Just a hunch, since I once had a disc problem in my back which appeared to heal itself, however, I could have a nerve issue.
I have a primary physician who owns a self contained clinic and has sent me to his facility for minimal painful therapy which has not helped me at all. I am now in the midst of my 3rd series of those Rooster cone shots which have been useless.
I have been referred to an orthopedic physician who says that the only resort for me is Knee Surgery..I am holding off on
this procedure due to the cons that I have read, been told about. Therefore, I am at a painful loss..Please can you recommend a process that I should at least consider..
Thank You,
Doris Baldwin
