“My authority doesn’t lie in my education, it lies in my story, from pain to purpose.”

How many doctors have you met who are this authentic, and who understand where are coming from? Dr. Dan Pompa’s own story was marked by pain, and he knows first-hand what it’s like to be healthy…and then suddenly have to fight to do things you used to take for granted. He had to fight to regain his health, and the process taught him more about treating pain than any textbook could have.

His view of pain tells us much about his approach to treating it: “Pain is an alarm telling the body that there’s something wrong. If the oil light comes on in the car, nobody thinks to just cut the wire or put tape over it, but that’s how pain is being treated.”

While we often point the finger of blame to mainstream medicine for the epidemic of covering up pain instead of true healing, he asserts that some of this thinking has entered alternative medicine as well.

His overarching philosophy of true healing for chronic pain revolves around three core root problems:

The first is biotoxic illness, which typically comes from exposure to mold.

Many people are exposed to mold in their homes or environment in ways that they are not aware of. This mold produces a neurotoxin that attacks the nervous system. Stiffness and achy joints are common symptoms.

Mold exposure can, however, also lead to very serious health issues. Autoimmune disease, neurological problems that can be permanent may result from prolonged exposure to certain molds, so if you suspect you are being exposed to mold, contact a doctor.

Second, people may suffer from hidden infections.

These often originate in the mouth from areas where the patient once had a cavity. They can be dormant for over 20 years, and then manifest as chronic, systemic inflammatory responses. Like mold exposure, common symptoms are achy joints and fatigue.

Finally, heavy metals must be addressed.

Dr. Pompa points especially to the ethyl mercury in flu shots and the mercury in silver fillings. This mercury is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, and is toxic to the body.

These hidden infections and sources of toxicity drive autoimmune inflammation. Because most people associate the symptoms with ordinary aging, they take medications to treat the symptoms and think they just have to live with them.

How do you address pain that stems from these things?

Dr. Pompa carefully guides patients through the detox process to heal them on a cellular level. A healthy cell will then be able to detox itself.

If you’re suffering from pain and autoimmune illness, it’s vital to find a doctor who understands the importance of diet. Especially where inflammation is present, diet makes a huge difference in healing.

In his final thoughts, Dr. Pompa suggests finding a doctor that “knows what they are doing.” This is the only way for patients to discover the source of pain, and take a personalized approach to healing. Read online reviews, consult with others about their experiences, and interview doctors before you decide to trust your health to their care.

The doctor-patient relationship is extremely important, but don’t forget– you are in charge of your own health.

Any time you don’t feel listened to, aren’t able to get satisfactory answers to your questions, or feel uncomfortable with a treatment plan, it’s your right to seek care elsewhere. Don’t compromise when it comes to your health!
